Ancient ultrasonic 5-point star shaped drill hole made in Dacite rock found in Morro Bay California
Along the west coast of the United States in central California lies a large eroded and heavily quarried volcanic plug made of Dacite rock located within the community of Morro Bay.
The 26-million-year-old Morro Rock was quarried between 1889 to 1969 to make a safe harbor by placing fragments of the quarried Dacite rock into a breakwater jetty.
Dacite rock contains approximately 65% silica and is considered intermediate felsic. The large white inclusions of Plagioclase Feldspar give the dacite a porphyritic texture.
Between Morro Rock and the three large smokestacks is a jetty of Dacite rock along Coleman cove. Within this jetty of rock lies a machined star shaped drill hole.
The fact that we do not and have not machined star shaped holes in rock on a large scale in modern times means that these machined drill holes are not only extremely ancient (pre-Chumash people 9,000 years ago) but they were not made by any American in the last 250 years either.
Ancient star shaped drill holes are created by a shaped metal tube that oscillates ultrasonically with abrasives and cuts right through the rock in one continuous motion.
By observing the holes shape, we can determine the shape of the drilling tube. Observation concludes a star shaped tube was used.
Today, we can prove how this star shaped hole in Morro Bay was machined by replicating the same technique in rock but on a smaller scale.
The size of the star hole matters not, only the technology to execute the same cut in rock matters.
(Below) Dacite rock obtained from the star hole artifact site in Morro Bay. I cut the Dacite rock with a diamond saw, followed with more cuts creating triangular samples of Dacite.
To cut stone, high speed is needed along with abrasives. While a diamond saw can spin super-fast, it pales in comparison to ultrasonics which can have a feed rate 400 times greater than today’s spinning saws and drills.
Learning that stone was machined in very ancient times can be most life changing for those interested in our distant past.
Many will ignore the science of the machined stone entirely, but for those who live for adventure and understanding will have a home of fellow researchers (ULTRA ARKY).
A line of jewelry for all those fascinated with ancient advanced technology of rock machining is being created as a means to educate advanced machining in wearable art and being a part of nature around us.
Jewelry made today using the same advanced ultrasonic technology used in the distant past to cut and shape stone is termed, Jewelry of the Gods.
Cheers and thanks to Wesley Broshears for guiding me to this ancient drill hole.
When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth (Spock from Star Trek).
Star shaped drill holes in rock were and are created using ultrasonic technology.
