Ancient Punk and the ultra arky

Below are 8 images copied off the internet showing examples of ultrasonic technology used to bore through stone.

There is no need to travel outside the USA in order to find and learn about ancient machining of stone. The process of creating and problem solving ancient stone artifacts is what the Ultra Arky is all about.

The trained Ultra Arky understands how these drill holes were created in stone and understands how to make the exact tool for each ancient hole created.

Above images are hallmarks of ultrasonic drilling. The shape of the metal tube is responsible for the shape of the hole made.

Below are examples of the tools used in ultrasonic drilling and the holes they make in stone.

Ultrasonic drilling cannot be achieved without the unique property of a piezioelectric crystal such as quartz.

The quartz crystal vibrates more than 32,000 times per second, a transducer converts electrical energy to mechanical vibration, resulting in an ultra high speed vibrating tube. Ultrasonic machine.

Hard abrasive powder in water (slurry) is applied between the stone and the ultra high speed vibrating tube, causing a high rate of aggregate removal in a very short amount of time.

The water not only keeps the abrasive powder between the tool and stone at all times, the water acts as a coolant for any frictional heat caused from high speed drilling.

The creation of art using ancient technology is called Ancient Punk. Unlike steam punk where gears and steam power are the driving mechanisms, ancient punk is an in-your-face demonstration showing proof of ancient technology in wearable form.

The quartz crystal pendant is turned upside down for true PUNK fashion.

Below is a pink tourmaline cabochon drilled ultrasonically to achieve a perfect star drill hole. I have used this tourmaline in the past for educational teachings on ultrasonic technology. Its now about to be punked out into a necklace.

Tourmaline is not only a piezoelectric crystal it is pyroelectric as well. An electrical charge is created by the tourmaline crystal when subjected to heat.

Attaching the pieces together to create an ancient punk necklace. The star core easily slides into the star drill hole with both pieces attached by chain. Easy snap on/ snap off necklace is interchangeable for lengths 16″, 18″, and 20″.

The amulet below was made by drilling a star hole in both green and blue glass (laser industry glass with no gas bubbles). Both star holes were filled with luminescent powder and glue. After filling the star holes, the 2 pieces of colored glass were rejoined by a cement. The 2 glued glass pieces, now one, are faceted into a horizontal split briolette.

A small round drill hole was made along the top of the stone where both holes are inserted with metal pegs.  A black rubber neoprene necklace snaps on and off the bi color, luminating internal star amulet. The minimalist approach gives off a contemporary look.

Charge up the internal star hole with light. The pendant/ amulet will stay luminated as long as its charged from time to time.
